Christopher Wylie, a former employee of Cambridge Analytica (CA) and whistleblower testified before the UK Parliament this week. He exposed Facebook’s actions of selling users’ data to political campaigns, including the Trump campaign, without users’ permission. He also testified that Facebook is able to spy on users in their homes and offices through the app on a user’s smartphone. Wylie clarified that Facebook doesn’t listen to the content of conversations, but rather the context, in order to customize advertising.
Facebook has maintained it doesn’t use its app to customize ads.
- Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook CEO, has been asked to testify before Parliament and has two weeks to comply. Facebook has offered to send a deputy, but it is not known whether he himself will comply
- The FTC has opened an investigation in to whether Facebook mishandled private data
- Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) will be holding hearings on data privacy beginning April 10
- Facebook insists it did not know that CA was taking data from its platform
- The Trump campaign, under Steve Bannon, legally purchased data from CA. Bannon sits on CA’s board.
- A university professor created an app downloaded by 270,000 people which took information from millions of people and this was used by the Obama 2012 campaign to sway voters
- Wylie says he was prompted to speak out because the election of Donald Trump “makes it click in your head that this actually has a much wider impact.”
Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos lost $13 billion of his net worth as Amazon shares fell 11 percent over the past two days. Media outlets are blaming this on Trump, who talked about changing Amazon’s tax treatment. The U.S. Postal Service, paid for by our tax dollars, gives them hefty subsidy in the form of complex pricing that offers Amazon lower prices on package delivery. (Bezos also owns the Washington Post.)
Why this Matters: This issue is made out by the MSM to be a Donald Trump problem because of the actions of Steve Bannon. Both sides have used Facebook to their advantage. Facebook and Google stocks are both taking hits because of this scandal.
President Trump is also being sued for “profiting” from foreign leaders who are staying in his hotels. A judge ruled to allow the lawsuit to go forward.
Continue praying for the President and that he would have favor with the courts.
Sanctuary Cities, States Fight Back
On Monday, Texas and more than a dozen other states led by Republican governors got behind the Trump administration and filed an amicus brief in support of a lawsuit against California’s sanctuary laws. Cities in California, specifically Orange County, are also looking into taking legal action against California’s sanctuary laws.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Department released 172 illegal alien inmates because state law SB54 prohibits them from notifying ICE. This is the same county that voted and approved Proposition 187, which denies public services to illegals. The measure was soon struck down in the courts.
Pray for a return to the rule of law in sanctuary cities and states. Pray for the courts to make godly decisions.
FBI Nabs Sex Cult Leader, Tied to Clintons
The FBI raided home of Keith Raniere, the co-founder and leader of NXIVM (pronounced nexium), a sex cult. Raniere will be returned to New York to face federal charges of sex trafficking and conspiracy to commit forced labor. Actress Allison Mack was listed as an unnamed co-conspirator.
Women were caged, branded, and forced to have sex with Raniere, according to testimonies of women who have escaped from the cult.
Local authorities say Raniere has access to millions of dollars and private jets which made him difficult to locate. They also raided the home of Nancy Salzman, co-founder of the cult. Salzman is a member of the Clinton Global Initiative, which costs $15,000 per year for membership. Salzman brought cash across the border taken during cult training sessions in Mexico.
NXIVM is tied to Democrat causes.
- The NXIVM group in Albany New York gave $30,000 to Clinton’s 2008 campaign.
- Sen. Kirsten Gilligrand (D-NY) received a $2,400 donation from Clare Bronfman, an heiress of the Seagram liquor fortune and cult operations director.
- Gillibrand’s father, Doug Rutnik, was once a lobbyist for NXIVM and Keith Raniere.
Why this Matters: This arrest will lead to many others, as there are NXIVM members all across Hollywood and the political spectrum. The President’s Executive Order of December 21 allows the Treasury Department to seize the assets of anyone involved in human rights abuses.
Praise God!! Evil is being exposed and judged. Pray for more victories, especially in the area of child sex trafficking.
Inspector General Michael Horowitz said he will review potential Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) abuses by both the Justice Department and the FBI. This follows requests from Congress and Attorney General Jeff Sessions.
Praise the Lord! Pray for a clean and thorough investigation and righteous judgment.
China has sent a dozen ships and an aircraft carrier in a show of force to the South China Sea. The Chinese navy is conducting annual exercises. One photo shows 40 ships and submarines, and President Xi Jinping said he prepared to fight bloody battles to remain as a superpower. Xi was just re-elected president “for life.” The South China Seas are disputed waterways where China has been building islands for their military’s use.
Saudi Arabia and Israel have done something not seen in history: they are allowing flights between the two countries. An AirIndia flight between New Delhi and Tel Aviv on Thursday flew over Saudi airspace, for the first time. Israel and Saudi Arabia have no diplomatic relations, yet this is an important sign that the two countries are on new footing. The flight marked the end of a 70-year ban on crossing Saudi airspace.
North Korea’s Kim Jong-un visited Beijing in his first foreign trip since 2011.He was treated to a banquet at the Great Hall of the People and he and Xi discussed developing relations between the two countries. Some media outlets are reporting that Kim was actually brought to China to be reprimanded.
Pray for the upcoming meeting between Trump and Kim.
The 2020 census will contain a questions about legal status related to immigration, despite opposition from Democrats. It is expected that lawsuits will be filed to stop this from happening.
Pray for the question to be kept on the census; perhaps we’ll have a better idea of how many illegals are here.
Fourth quarter GDP was up 2.9 percent, better than expected.
David Shulkin is out as Veterans Affairs Secretary; White House physician Admiral Ronny Jackson has been named to replace him.
Pray for this man that he may successfully reform the VA. What a huge task!
Deut. 25:1 – If there be a controversy between men, and they come unto judgment, that the judges may judge them; then they shall justify the righteous, and condemn the wicked.
